Spring on Central Vancouver Island arrives fast. And so does the backlog. By mid-May, bin rentals are booked out, equipment schedules are full, and gravel delivery timelines stretch into June. If you’re planning a spring cleanup in Parksville or Qualicum Beach, the best time to book is now.

Here’s what to prioritize and in what order.

What “Spring Cleanup” Actually Means

For most homeowners and contractors in Parksville and Qualicum Beach, spring cleanup involves some combination of:

  • Yard debris removal. Branches, leaves, dead plants, brush piles from winter storms
  • Driveway refresh. Gravel top-up, regrading, pothole filling after winter freeze-thaw
  • Garden and bed prep. Sod removal, topsoil delivery, new bed excavation
  • Site prep for summer projects. Footing excavation, deck prep, land clearing
  • Junk and renovation debris. Clearing garages, sheds, and renovation leftovers

Not all of these require the same service. Here’s how to match the job to what you actually need.

Bin Rental: For Volume Debris

If you’re clearing out a garage, doing a full yard debris haul, or generating renovation waste, a bin rental is the most efficient option. Drop it on your driveway, fill it over a few days, and we pick it up.

15-yard bin. Smaller renovations, roofing tear-offs, one-room demos, moderate yard cleanup 20-yard bin. Full property cleanouts, larger landscaping projects, construction debris

Starting at $275. Most Parksville and Qualicum Beach deliveries happen within 24–48 hours of booking.

Debris Removal: For Specific Loads

If you have a specific pile. A yard’s worth of branches, a load of old topsoil, demolition debris from a project. Debris removal with a dump trailer is more targeted than a bin. We come, load it, and haul it away in one visit.

Good for: soil, gravel, rocks, branches, brush, renovation materials, yard waste

Gravel and Material Delivery: For Driveways and Landscaping

The most common spring job we do in Parksville and Qualicum Beach is driveway gravel top-up. After winter rain and frost cycles, most gravel driveways need a refresh. Either a light surface layer or a full regrade.

Road crush (3/4” minus) is the right material for most residential driveways. We deliver and can spread.

Also available: topsoil, fill, drain rock, and mulch for garden beds and landscaping.

Mini Excavation: For Site Prep

If you’re breaking ground on a summer project. New deck footings, a patio base, expanded garden beds, drainage correction. Mini excavation needs to happen before planting season starts. Getting it done in April or May means your contractor or landscaper can start their work without waiting on ground prep.

We also handle utility locating before any mechanical ground disturbance. Required before digging in BC.

The Booking Order

If you’re doing multiple things this spring, book in this order:

  1. Mini excavation first. Ground prep has to happen before anything else
  2. Bin rental or debris removal. Clear the site while work is underway
  3. Material delivery. Gravel, topsoil, or fill comes in after the site is prepped

Trying to do it the other way around causes delays and wasted trips.
